Tell me about your journey, how did you get to be a Hottie?
Growing up with my mum who has worked for House of Travel since it started, it seemed inevitable that I would follow in her foot steps. She encouraged travel from a young age, sending me off to Europe for 6 weeks at 21. Travel creates so many lasting friendships & memories and now I get to help others experience that – I love it!
Take us behind the scenes - what does a day in your life look like?
Life on the West Coast is pretty laid-back, and I love it! My days are filled with work, catching up with friends/family and playing squash—keeps me energized and balanced. And of course, I make sure to squeeze in a great coffee or an espresso martini to keep things exciting!
My work day normally starts with a review of emails from clients who are enquiring about new trips, or asking for adjustments on recommendations that I have provided or just general updates from clients who are away. Then, I might jump into a virtual training when I have time to stay updated on the latest travel trends, destinations, or systems updates. Walk-ins and scheduled appointments fill the rest of the day, these can range from short visits to order some foreign cash, open a cash passport or book a quick Aussie holiday to people planning there big overseas adventures. Lately I have been getting all my past clients who had their holidays cancelled due to covid coming back to rebook which has been awesome!!
What advice would you give someone just starting their career or is interested in your role?
Travel is a rewarding adventure for both you and your clients, make the most of it! The industry’s always changing, so staying flexible and curious about new places/things keeps it exciting—and helps you spark ideas for your clients’ next big holiday!
Is there anything people don’t understand about your job that you wish they did?
How much behind-the-scenes work goes into planning the perfect trip. It’s not just about booking flights and hotels—it’s about creating personalized experiences, seamless travel experiences and staying on top of constant changes in the travel world to make sure everything goes smoothly.
What do you enjoy most about your role?
Hearing feedback like, "You were absolutely right, we love this city as much as you," is such a rewarding part of the job. It’s those moments that remind you’re not just booking trips—you’re helping people create amazing memories!
How would you explain to your friends and family what working here is like?/ What is it about House of Travel that keeps you coming back?
I get to come to work and chat about amazing destinations & share my excitement for travel every day. Plus, the whole team across NZ is awesome and it’s always a good time, House of Travel really lives up to its core values & supports the team so well. Some days you don’t even feel like your at work 😊
What are you looking forward to currently, in your role and personally?
Looking forward to some great trips in the next few years & hoping to take my next steps with House of Travel and move into an Owner Operator role.
